FOMO, social illness
Have you ever scrolled through Instagram and while you were looking through your stories you see that your friends met up without you. Have you ever felt, hurt from that? Angry? Disappointed? Offended? If you have, you might be a victim of FOMO. I believe FOMO is one of the biggest social issue of our time. But, what is FOMO? FOMO stands for fear of missing out, I believe this is self-explanatory, however to summarize it is when people you know, friends, family, etc do things without you. Then you begin to feel left out and you get upset, angry, disappointed.
What is the big deal? So you missed out on an event or a hangout, why would you feel hurt by that? Believe it or not its is a real thing, and a lot of people are affected by FOMO everyday. But what is the big deal, I believe it can cause a lot of different things, for one it creates a negative attitude for yourself. How many times have you caught yourself being super negative after seeing something like that. How many times have you caught yourself being judgmental, cursing out people all because they didn't invite you to something. Would you say these are normal things to do, to possibly a friend? Of course not, the idea of FOMO has been so played down that its considered petty, immature to have FOMO.
I think it goes back to the idea of being open and understanding for each person and knowing that everyone is different. The way you or someone else handles fear, may be different from the way someone else may handle it.
