What does it mean to be extraordinary and what it means to stay consistent

Stop trying to be extraordinary at everything , I can’t even remember where I found this, but I read this somewhere and as quickly as I could. Wrote it down for later.

I like to think that I’m juggling a lot—my career, my ongoing learning, and my various interests. I’m constantly studying and keeping up with new technologies, sharpening my skills, and refining my soft skills. At the same time, I’m exploring digital writing and trying to master a new style in the digital world. Then there’s consumer technology—keeping up with the latest iPhones, new laptops, graphics cards, and the software that seems to be released daily, and my personal hobbies such as gaming, mobile photography and videography.

Finding balance in all of this is a challenge. When I focus on my career, I fall behind on the newest hardware releases or software updates. When I prioritize my hobbies, I sometimes lose sight of my career. Mobile photography and videography, in particular, tend to take a backseat when I’m caught up in everything else. No matter what I focus on, something always seems to slip.

This quote offers a new perspective: Stop trying to be extraordinary at everything. At first, I push back—why not? But the real question is, how can I? My own struggle proves that when I try to juggle everything, I’m not extraordinary—or even great—at any of it. It makes sense: spreading myself too thin keeps me from excelling at anything.

Like anything in life, consistency matters more than perfection. When we start something new, we’re usually bad at it—no one is great right away. It’s only through consistency that we improve. I still struggle with consistency, but I’ve noticed that the things I stick with are the ones I make the most progress in. The more I show up and put in the effort, the better I get—it’s as simple as that.

With all this in mind, I’m refocusing my goals and shifting my approach. My priority is to be exceptional in my career—growing, learning more about technology, and strengthening both my technical and soft skills. I want to master creating dashboards tailored to different needs, fully understand and manage new software, refine my strategic thinking, and develop clear, effective technical documentation.

At the same time, I don’t want to neglect other areas of my life. I want to build and define my personal brand—figuring out what that truly means. And as a personal project, I want to improve my videography and photography skills, turning them into something more intentional rather than just a passing interest.

This quote really helped me clear my thought and make the best decisions and figure out how to take the next steps in life. And I hope and encourage everyone else to really think about what you want to be exceptional at, how to be ordinary in all things, and most importantly be consistent in everything
