My New Writing System
Everyone is different when it comes to writing. Everyone has different processes, and everyone has a different way of doing it. For me, I have been experimenting with different writing processes, and I believe I have found one that works for me.
The first step for me is ideating and dumping. I usually get a topic I want to write about, and then in my notebook, I’ll start writing things down—random thoughts about the topic, how I want to break down the topic, etc. This helps me dump out my ideas and see them. From there, I can start highlighting things I want to add and crossing out things I don’t want to add. I can even expand on ideas from there if I want. This really helps set what I want to do and what I want to focus on.
Next is the actual writing process. After I have ideated, it’s time to expand and write everything down. I actually have a few steps here as well. At first, I will just write things down—I don’t care too much about grammar or anything here; I will just write everything down in the proper steps as much as possible. But it’s mostly for me to just write. After I have written everything down, that’s when I will start focusing on grammar. I actually suck at this, so I use AI for this step then I will finalize everything and make sure it’s ready to be published.
Once things look good, I’ll finally publish it. I will publish on my main website. Although there isn’t too much traffic, I still like to have a place that is actually mine and isn’t reliant on the stability of another platform. I have also started publishing on Substack. It’s a new platform for me and it’s a place I like publishing on.
Once I am done publishing, I actually store my writing somewhere. I am not sure how much people use this step, but I got this habit from work, where we tend to store things for up to 1–3 years. I like storing things because it allows me to revisit them and see them again. I can also use this to compare my old writing to my new writing. This way, I will always have a place I can come to again.
This is my writing process, this is a new system that was created, and although I have a long way to go, this is what works best for me.
