What is The Deal With Mobile Cameras?

Mobile cameras have always been a selling point when it comes to the sale of smartphones. One of the key ways to differentiate one phone from another is by the design of the camera bumps. However, it's not just for show; companies heavily advertise them because they are worth advertising with. Over the years, mobile cameras have become so good that companies are producing TV-grade commercials with them. Apple, a 2 trillion-dollar company, created a live event using their own iPhone. Yes, the same iPhone in your pocket—well, it's their newest and most powerful iPhone, and yes, it probably has a lot of extra features, but you get the point.

Creators of all kinds have started their careers from their phones. Companies like Apple, Samsung, and Google use content creators to advertise their phones. So, it is clear that I am a fan of mobile cameras, but why? Because I believe that learning to use your mobile camera is a skill and an art form in itself.

Don’t get me wrong, I respect and understand the value of a proper camera. But not everyone needs or wants a professional camera. That is why the camera on your device excites me so much; now, anyone can take great photos and videos. But how does it work?

Hardware and Software:

There are two things that make a great mobile camera: the hardware and the software. The obvious one is the hardware; without an actual lens, there would be no camera. If you've noticed, there are more and more camera lenses appearing on your device. The reason is that each lens serves a different purpose. Typically, there is a main lens, which is the one that most people use. Additionally, there is a telephoto lens that helps you zoom in and out and an ultra-wide lens that gives a sense of depth in a photo. If you are not sure what that means, you have probably noticed that the background might see a little blurry and less out of focus, that is sense of depth means. Each company creates different lenses and adjusts them to their standards, but generally, most companies have these kinds of lenses. However, mobile cameras have limitations; compared to pro-level cameras, mobile cameras have smaller sensors. That's where software comes in.

The other part is the software, arguably one of the most important components. Why? Because software is what makes mobile photography, mobile photography. Almost all cameras use software, including professional cameras, but due to the limitations of mobile cameras, they rely on software more heavily. The processing software also distinguishes each smartphone. Apple’s processing of an image differs from Samsung's. When you compare photos side by side, Samsung tends to add more color and adjust the images more than an Apple device. There isn’t a right or wrong answer regarding which image will look better; it's up to the user to determine which one they like better. It's amazing how far mobile cameras have come since the launch of the first one, and thanks to advancements in both hardware and software, is what made this possible.

This opens up so many opportunities for so many people to create videos and take pictures without worrying about the gear. There are no more excuses now! Personally, I am excited about the growth in mobile cameras because I can now take great pictures and make amazing videos without always having to carry a camera. It's right in my pocket. As someone interested in photography and videography, it helps me scratch that itch wherever I am. I am excited about the growth of mobile cameras and eager to see what the future will bring.
